Thailand Raises Airport Departure Tax to 1,120 Baht on June 20

Passengers at a Thai international airport departure terminal

Starting 20 June 2026, every passenger departing Thailand on an international flight will pay a higher Passenger Service Charge (PSC). The Airports of Thailand (AOT) is raising the fee from 730 baht to 1,120 baht — a 53% increase that applies at all six AOT-managed airports.

The affected airports are Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang in Bangkok, Chiang Mai International, Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai International, Phuket International, and Hat Yai International. Domestic routes are unaffected; the domestic PSC stays at 130 baht.

What you will pay

The additional charge of 390 baht (approximately USD 11) is embedded in the ticket price rather than collected at the departure gate. Tickets purchased and issued before 20 June 2026 retain the old 730 baht rate even if the flight departs after the cut-off date. Only tickets issued from 20 June onwards will carry the updated 1,120 baht PSC.

Why the increase

AOT says the revenues will fund airport infrastructure upgrades, improved passenger facilities, and enhanced services across its network. The previous rate had been unchanged for many years and no longer covered the cost of running modern international terminals.

What it means for your trip

For most travellers the practical impact is modest — the increase adds roughly USD 11 to the total ticket price. Travellers holding multiple onward segments booked as separate tickets may see the charge applied on each leg departing Thailand. If you are booking new flights from Bangkok, Chiang Mai, or Hat Yai now, expect the 1,120 baht PSC to be included automatically in the quoted fare.

Budget travellers should note that Thai authorities have separately been considering a tourist entry levy of around 300 baht. That fee — entirely distinct from the PSC — has not yet been confirmed for a launch date, so the two should not be confused.

We recommend checking that your outbound ticket is priced correctly and budgeting the updated departure charge into your overall trip costs, especially if you are flying out of multiple AOT airports during your visit.
