Thailand’s Immigration Bureau has confirmed that the Thailand Integrated Immigration and Monitoring (THIM) application is now mandatory for all foreign nationals entering Thailand by air, land, or sea. The requirement takes effect for all arrivals processed from August 2026 onwards. Travellers who do not complete THIM registration before arriving at Thai immigration will face delays and may be referred for secondary screening.
What is the THIM app?
THIM replaces the paper Thailand Arrival Card (TM6) that most visitors have been required to complete on arrival or in-flight. The digital system collects the same information — passport details, flight number, accommodation address in Thailand, intended length of stay — but adds a health declaration and emergency contact field.
The application is free and available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Search for “THIM Thailand Immigration” to find the official Bureau of Immigration version. A web-based version is also available at the Immigration Bureau’s official website for travellers without a smartphone.
Who must register
All foreign nationals entering Thailand regardless of nationality, visa type, or port of entry. This includes:
- Tourists arriving under visa exemption (including the Thailand Privilege Card)
- Holders of tourist visas (TR), non-immigrant visas, and e-visas
- Transit passengers who will clear Thai immigration
- Land border arrivals from Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, and other neighbours
Thai nationals and holders of a Thai permanent residency stamp are exempt.
How to complete registration
- Download the THIM app and create an account using your passport number and email address.
- Complete the arrival form at least 72 hours before your scheduled entry into Thailand — the system accepts entries up to 30 days in advance.
- Save the generated QR code; immigration officers will scan it on arrival instead of reviewing a paper card.
- If you are transiting through Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and not clearing immigration, no THIM registration is required.
What to expect at Thai immigration
Based on reports from early August arrivals, immigration lanes are now divided between THIM-completed and non-completed queues. The THIM queue has been clearing significantly faster. Travellers without a valid QR code are directed to a supplementary desk where staff assist them in completing the registration on a tablet before processing. The process adds 15–30 minutes; complete registration before your flight to avoid this.
For guidance on your visa options before travel, see our Thailand visa guide. If you need vaccinations or health documentation for entry, our health and vaccinations guide covers current requirements. Travellers arriving at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang airports will find English-language THIM assistance desks in the arrival halls.
We will update this page as the Immigration Bureau refines the rollout.
