Character Fest Thailand 2 takes over CentralWorld from August 14 to 17, offering four days of free pop culture programming in the heart of Bangkok. The event — a follow-up to the inaugural edition earlier this year — focuses on anime, manga, gaming, and cosplay, and requires no advance ticket to attend.
CentralWorld sits on Ratchadamri Road in the Pathum Wan district. It is accessible from the Chidlom BTS station (a short walk via the covered skywalk) or from Siam station. Both are on the BTS Sukhumvit line.
What’s On
The festival spans CentralWorld’s open-air plazas and indoor exhibition halls. Expect interactive game booths from regional publishers, merchandise stalls carrying limited-edition items from Japanese and Thai studios, and designated cosplay zones where participants and photographers gather throughout the day.
Live performances are scheduled across all four days, including voice actor meet-and-greet sessions, band performances from artists in the regional pop and J-pop scene, and competitive cosplay rounds with judged categories and prizes. A dedicated stage hosts panel discussions and fan signings.
Character Fest draws a younger, predominantly local crowd but is designed to be accessible to visitors unfamiliar with the genre — browsing the art market and watching cosplay events costs nothing beyond the entry to the mall itself.
Practical Information
Doors open at 10:00 a.m. each day. Saturday and Sunday afternoons are the busiest periods — arriving before midday on those days helps avoid queuing at popular stalls and getting clear sightlines for stage events.
CentralWorld’s own food hall and restaurants remain open throughout, as do the surrounding Ratchaprasong area venues. The BTS Chidlom and Siam interchanges can be congested on weekend evenings after events close; if you are heading onward by train, exiting before 8:30 p.m. usually avoids the worst of the crowd.
No dress code applies, though elaborate cosplay is welcomed and common. Storage lockers are available inside CentralWorld if you are carrying luggage between the festival and a nearby hotel.
When to Go
The event runs Thursday through Sunday. Thursday tends to be quieter if crowds are a concern. Weekend daytime sessions are the best time to see full cosplay turnout and catch featured performances.
Bangkok has no shortage of weekend events in August, but most charge admission — this one does not. For a broader look at what is happening around the country this month, check our events page and practical travel guide.
