Thailand’s Tourism Authority (TAT) has forecast 250,000 Chinese visitors during China’s Golden Week holiday from 1 to 7 October 2026, projecting THB 11.5 billion in tourism revenue over the seven-day period. Chinese tourists are now the single largest source of international arrivals to Thailand, and the October holiday week is the year’s first major peak in that segment.

The forecast follows a strong rebound in Chinese outbound tourism throughout 2026, boosted by expanded direct routes between Chinese cities and Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, and by Thailand’s continued visa-free entry for Chinese nationals.

Where Visitors Are Heading

Bangkok absorbs the majority of Golden Week arrivals, with Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports both expecting elevated passenger volumes. Phuket, Pattaya, and Chiang Mai see strong secondary demand, while popular island destinations including Koh Samui and Krabi are expected to reach near-full capacity at mid-range hotels during the week.

TAT has coordinated with airport authorities, hotels, and tour operators to manage the surge, including additional immigration counters at Suvarnabhumi and extended transport services on key routes.

Planning Around Golden Week

Travellers who are already in Thailand or arriving during 1–7 October should expect fuller resorts, higher-than-usual prices at central Bangkok hotels, and longer queues at major attractions including the Grand Palace and Wat Pho. Budget accommodation in Bangkok’s tourist corridors books out quickly during Golden Week, so last-minute options may be limited.

Those arriving after October 7 will find conditions easing, with November generally one of the more comfortable months to travel — lower humidity, reduced rainfall in most regions, and slightly softer hotel prices.

TAT’s overall target for 2026 is 40 million international arrivals. The Golden Week surge is a significant contributor to reaching that figure, particularly in the final quarter of the year.
