Hat Yai is primarily a business and commercial city — most visitors are Malaysian and Singaporean cross-border shoppers rather than Western tourists. The hotel infrastructure reflects this: there are several well-run four-stars, a solid range of mid-range business hotels, and budget guesthouses oriented toward cost-conscious travellers. Here is the guide by category.
Four-star and business hotels
Centara Hotel Hat Yai is one of the city’s most consistently reviewed properties — a full-service hotel with a rooftop pool, multiple restaurants, and central location near Kim Yong Market. The Centara brand is reliable across Thailand and this property lives up to the standard. Rates approximately ฿1,800–3,000/night as of 2026.
Lee Gardens Plaza Hotel is Hat Yai’s most established four-star — the hotel that most Malaysian business visitors return to. Central location, breakfast included in most rates, good concierge service familiar with cross-border logistics. Rates approximately ฿1,600–2,800/night.
Novotel Hat Yai Centara (affiliated with Centara, despite the name) is a larger property with a convention centre — the go-to for business groups. Good facilities, standard Novotel service level. Rates approximately ฿2,200–3,500/night.
Pavilion Hotel Hat Yai is a solid mid-range option — comfortable rooms, good value, walking distance to the night market area. Rates approximately ฿1,200–2,000/night.
Mid-range hotels
BED Station Hostel Hat Yai is the best design hostel in the city — clean, social, with private rooms as well as dorms. Private rooms from ฿700; dorms from ฿350. Well-located for the food markets.
Hat Yai Guesthouse Row — The sois running parallel to Niphat Uthit 2 Road have a cluster of Chinese-style guesthouses and budget hotels charging ฿500–900 for a clean double. No single property stands out as the best; choose by location and read recent reviews on Booking.com for current condition.
The Nap Hat Yai near the Night Bazaar area is a newer mid-range property with clean, design-led rooms at honest prices. Rates approximately ฿900–1,500/night.
Near the train station
Hat Yai’s railway station sits on the main Bangkok–Malaysia line. Staying near the station suits travellers arriving or departing by train.
Several guesthouses within 500m of the station offer functional accommodation from ฿400–700/night. These are primarily aimed at transit travellers and budget visitors — no pools, limited facilities, but clean and well-located for the markets.
King’s Hotel near the station is a step up from pure budget — reasonable rooms, reliable air-conditioning, within walking distance of the markets. Rates approximately ฿600–900/night.
Airport area
Hat Yai International Airport is 12km from the city centre (approximately ฿200 by taxi, 20 minutes).
There are a few budget hotels near the airport for early departures or late arrivals, but staying near the city centre is a better option for most visits since the taxi fare is modest and you have access to better food and markets.
Songkhla as an alternative base
Songkhla (30km north of Hat Yai) is worth considering for visitors who want a calmer setting with beach access. The old town has Sino-Portuguese shophouses, a good beach on the Gulf of Thailand side, and several guesthouses. Day trips to Hat Yai are easy by songthaew or taxi (approximately ฿100–120, 45 minutes). Hat Yai’s hotel density and airport make it the practical primary base, but a night or two in Songkhla adds a different dimension.
