How to choose where to stay
Koh Lipe is a small island with no roads and no motorised vehicles. The three main beaches - Sunrise, Pattaya, and Sunset - each have a distinct character, and where you stay determines the daily rhythm of your trip. There is no bad choice for beach access, but the tradeoffs are real.
Sunrise Beach: The longest beach, calm morning water, the highest concentration of accommodation. Best for: first-time visitors, couples who want beach access without sacrificing restaurant options, those who want to spend multiple mornings swimming.
Sunset Beach: Quieter, smaller, best snorkelling from shore. Requires a walk or water taxi to reach Walking Street. Best for: couples, repeat visitors, snorkellers who prefer shore access over town convenience.
Pattaya Beach / Walking Street area: Closest to restaurants, bars, and dive shops; longtail boat landing is here. Best for: divers doing multiple day trips, backpackers, those doing short stays and optimising for convenience.
Sunrise Beach
Sunrise Beach has the widest range of accommodation on the island across all budget tiers.
Budget (฿500–900/night):
Castaway Resort - One of Koh Lipe’s oldest properties. Simple fan bungalows in a garden setting, a short walk from the beach. Clean, functional, popular with solo travellers and pairs on tighter budgets. Approximately ฿500–800/night as of 2026.
Nornee Bungalows - Basic fan and air-con rooms near the southern end of Sunrise Beach, close to the Chao Ley community area. A quieter option away from the main resort strip. Approximately ฿600–900/night.
Mid-range (฿1,500–3,500/night):
Idyllic Concept Resort - One of the better-maintained mid-range properties on Sunrise Beach. Air-conditioned rooms and bungalows, pool, decent restaurant. Positioned roughly in the centre of the beach with good access to the water. Approximately ฿1,500–2,800/night depending on season and room type.
Boo Boo Lipe - A popular property on a good stretch of Sunrise Beach sand. Well-maintained rooms, friendly service, social atmosphere at the beach bar. Approximately ฿2,500–4,500/night at peak.
Upper mid-range (฿4,000–8,000/night):
AKIRA Lipe Resort - One of the more polished properties on Sunrise Beach. Pool, air-conditioned rooms, beachfront positioning. Approximately ฿4,000–7,000/night as of 2026. Popular with couples.
Sunset Beach
Sunset Beach has fewer properties than Sunrise, with a mix of smaller resorts and bungalow operations.
Serendipity Beach Resort - Well-positioned on Sunset Beach with bungalows and standard rooms in a lush garden. The quieter setting suits those who want to be away from the main activity zone. Approximately ฿1,200–2,500/night.
Mountain Resort - Hillside pool villas above Sunset Beach with sea views over Koh Adang. The elevated position means a short walk to the beach but significantly better views. Approximately ฿4,000–7,000/night for pool villa options.
The northern end of Sunset Beach has the best shore snorkelling from any Koh Lipe resort - worth factoring in if snorkelling is a primary activity.
Walking Street / Pattaya Beach Area
Several guesthouses and smaller hotels are set back from Pattaya Beach along Walking Street and the lanes behind it. Convenient for restaurants and tour operators; not for quiet beach mornings.
Budget options here are plentiful: basic air-con rooms from ฿400–700/night. Mid-range properties in this area tend to be behind the beach rather than beachfront.
Practical booking notes
- Cash: Bring Thai baht. ATMs on the island charge approximately ฿200–250 per withdrawal and sometimes run out of cash in peak weeks.
- Closed season: Most properties close May to late October. Verify directly with your property if you’re travelling at the edges of the season.
- Check-in: Boats from Pak Bara arrive mid-morning; most check-ins are from 2pm. Luggage storage is available at most properties for early arrivals.
- Electricity: Koh Lipe runs on a local generator - power can be intermittent outside peak hours at budget properties. Beachfront mid-range and above properties generally have reliable 24-hour electricity.
